Autobianchi
Autobianchi, a name often overlooked in the pantheon of classic Italian marques, holds a unique position. Born from a collaboration between Bianchi, Pirelli, and Fiat in 1955, the brand aimed to produce innovative, compact cars. The Autobianchi Bianchina, a stylish derivative of the Fiat 500, established their early reputation.
Autobianchi's true legacy lies in its front-wheel-drive innovations. The Primula, launched in 1964, pioneered the transverse engine layout and hatchback design, concepts later adopted by Fiat. Though production ceased in 1988, Autobianchi's influence on automotive design, particularly in the compact segment, remains undeniable. While never achieving the widespread fame of its partners, Autobianchi carved a niche for itself as a purveyor of forward-thinking, stylish, and often overlooked Italian classics.
